Chargers Continue Pathetic Play on the Road, Lose to Steelers 11-10

Chargers Philip Rivers' two interceptions and a missed FG by Nate Kaeding wasted a solid effort by the Bolts defense. Chargers lose 11-10 and fall to 4-6.

The Chargers are 1-5 on the road this season and fans cannot overlook their inconsistencies. For the 1st time this season, the defense looked pretty good. Despite giving up 410 yards in total offense to the Steelers, they bended but did not break. The defense applied pressure to Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and sacked him 4 times. The defense also did not allow a touchdown and played well enough to win. But the Chargers offense could not make the plays when they needed it the most. First, calling a pass play on 3rd down in your own end zone was asking for disaster. A two step drop or a streak pattern would have been a better call. Philip Rivers' interception in the red zone late in the 2nd quarter proved costly. Rivers, though having a great season, is taking more risks and not being patient with his throws and reads. Nate Kaeding also missed a 41 yard field goal. Not good...

    Positives

    1. Defense: 4 Sacks. An existent pass rush. Great goal line stand. No TD allowed. Gave up a lot of yards but kept them in the game. Finally...
    2. Jacques Cesaire: 2 sacks, great pressure, one man wrecking crew.

    Negatives

    1. Philip Rivers: 159 yards and 2 INTs.The 1 INT in the red zone killed the momentum and lead to a Steelers FG. Rivers is forcing throws and not making good decisions.
    2. Play Calling: Norv Turner's offense is predictable and non imaginative. Two step drop and throw? Slants? No excuse but LT should be in every pass play. Spread the offense. Reverses? Something Norv! The problem may not be Cottrell, it could be Norv himself.
    3. Rushing Game: 66 yards rushing. LT had one TD but the O-line continues to underachieve.

Next Week: vs Indianapolis Colts @ Qualcomm Stadium, 5:15PM PST

Chargers face a hot Colts team that has returned to form, winning their last 3 games. If the Chargers expect to make the playoffs, they must run the table and win their remaining 6 games. It may be too late.
